Often times we think of YouTube (not to be confused with u-tube.com), as a new age way of viewing the world. We may see it as a way to recap what happened on a big-time talk show or to re-watch some key moments of the world. But what about using YouTube as a way to build your business and in turn build your life?
Plan. Get an idea of what you want to do and how you want to do it. What are you passionate about? What do you want to share with the world. What videos do you think people will respond to?
Once you create your channel and before you publish your first video you need to know the following…
Advertisements, of course! But.. and this is a big but.. You only get paid when a viewer clicks on the ad or watches the ad for 30 seconds. Otherwise, no moo-lah. So, ask yourself a few questions. Is this the best method for you and your business to make money and do you have what it takes to make it work?
After you understand how to monetize your channel and videos, you should know how to get the biggest bang for your buck (and yes I am talking about your time, it’s worth more than you’d think).
Make sure to use YouTube’s various features. You will definitely want to maximize your channel to it’s greatest potential to get the best results.
Uploading/Duration– Anyone uploading content can upload a 15 minute video. After you’ve have proved yourself to the YouTube gods, then and only then will you be a lotted more time for your videos which can be 12 hours in length.
(Fun fact: Little background information… the reason behind this is because when YouTube first debuted in 2005, there was a 10 minute allowance with the grace of unlimited video times, however reports from March 2006 showed that the majority of videos over the length of 10 minutes were duplications of films and shows.)
Quality- Thankfully, YouTube had a range of quality levels, depending on your viewer or their preference. You have viewing qualities from 720p HD to 1080p HD. In 2014, 60 frames per second were introduced to viewers, thus allowing you to view in a better quality.
Platforms- Supported platforms? Got a smart phone? There is an app for that! Whether you’ve got an android or apple device, you’re able to view (and your viewers can too), on the go where ever you go!
Now that you know the down and dirty, you ready to proceed with your YouTube Channel but there are a few other things you’ll need.
Now this may sound funny but you need a computer or any other device that allows you to access Google (Fun fact: YouTube is owned by Google).
Make sure the device you are using has video capabilities. If you have no video capabilities you’re not going to have much luck on making your YouTube Channel successful.
Time is a big piece of the puzzle. You will need lots of it to place your content on your YouTube Channel. Once you’ve posted content, you will need to make sure you follow up with your content and get the word out to YouTubers.
You do want to pick a totally cool and catchy name; you name your kids, your pets, and maybe even your car… Why not name your YouTube Channel something just as unique!
If you are promoting your crafting abilities, name your channel something to the affect of “sew crafty”. A play on words not only lets your viewers know that you have a sense of humor, but it also gets across what you want to sell, promote, or share with others!
Remember that your username could make or break you. If it’s short and to the point, viewers will more than likely be able to remember that better than if you have a long, run on name that doesn’t even pertain to your topic.
Once you’ve logged into Google and you’ve got yourself onto YouTube, you can create your channel with your totally cool and catchy name. To add a channel or channels on your YouTube account, on the left hand side of your screen, you will see “My Channel”, this is where you will set up your youtube channel for the first time.
You only need to do this once, unless you are creating multiple channels.
This box is where you will enter the your channel’s name, the category, and the age range that your content will be appropriate. If your content is all about kids art, it is safe to say that the content you post will be appropriate for viewers (or Google+ users) at all times. Once you agree to the terms and conditions, you’re good to go! Start posting your videos.
So, this may have seemed super uber simple to set up a YouTube channel, but how can you optimize your channel to make money? What are the tips and tricks on making your videos tick?
Sure content is great, but when you first start out, unless you’re a seasoned pro, you’ll be awkward. It takes practice to become a YouTube expert, and the questions to ask yourself are: “How can I become more comfortable in front of the camera?” or “What can I do to better engage with my audience?”. Asking yourself these questions will give you ways to improve your appearance, thoughts, actions, and how you speak.
